Daniel Patrick Giles launched Perfumehead in 2022 as a series of seven olfactory love letters to his adopted home of Los Angeles — an idea sparked when Covid-19 temporarily claimed his sense or smell. The Toronto native had lived in California for years at that point, working for clients including Perricone MID and Eighth Day, but being his own boss meant he could write scent profiles in the form of time stamps and locations and up the percentage of fragrance oil so that each bottle is a long-lasting extrait de parfum. Our favorite is one of Giles's first batch. Room No. whose notes of nutmeg, black tea, and leather are meant to evoke 9 p.m. at the Chateau Marmont.
