Forbes: An Intoxicating Olfactive Love Letter To Los Angeles

Forbes senior contributor Celia Shatzman sat down with Perfumehead founder Daniel Giles earlier this year for an in-depth feature documenting the brand's beginnings during the peak of Covid-19.

At that time, Giles lost his sense of smell. "I had never experienced losing a sense, and it was like somebody turned a light off," says Giles. "What started to emerge for me was a really deep appreciation of scent, of how lucky we are to have all these wonderful and sometimes now so wonderful smells around us."

Giles also talks about his process of building the seven fragrances found in his debut collection. Based on his research and imagination, Giles compiled visuals, copy references, and stories which he handed over to a team of master perfumers.

"I am not a perfumer; I have a great respect and love for the art of perfumery, so I wanted to work with people who had that talent and experience and brought those qualities to it," says Giles. "The perfumers loved that they could let their imaginations run wild. It was my love letter to Los Angeles and their love letter to the art of making fragrances, and it happened at a time when we were all locked down."
